Intro to Youth Oppression & Adultism Workshop @ SHIFT NC (Summer '17)

In this Youth Oppression workshop we learned about the theory of adultism and explored adultism in the context of youth serving organizations SHIFT NC and Partners for Youth Opportunity. We discussed the social construction of age categories, how this construction is based on power and privilege, and how adultism is intricately linked to other systems of oppression such as colonialism and racism. Finally, we looked at media to engage with how ageism and adultism show up in the world.

"Excellent facilitator and a real expert!" -Carlton Koonce, Workforce Development Director at Partners for Youth Opportunity

HEART Party: A DIY Art Party  Zine-Making Workshop @ The Mothership (Summer '17)

HEART Party was self-love art party for all creative queers, and was the first event of the first ever Southern Fried Queer Pride Durham!

We opened with a Intro to Zine-Making Workshop where participants learned about the history of zine-making in the United States, types of zines, and worked on collaborative zines as a group. Then we opened the space for an open art jam!

Local Greensboro visual artist Arbmat displayed a collection of their work, local business WitchBae sold apparel and jewelry, and local DJ Glen Koko kept the vibes coming. The event was sponsored by Mothership and Happymess Art Studios, Classes and Supplies.
